Biblical Reasonings based on The Teaching of Qedamawi Haile Sellassie

Parashah 6 Toledot פָּרָשָׁה תּוֹלְדֹת Part 1 Jacob and Esau

There is much knowledge (Da’at/דַּעַת) , wisdom (Hokmah/חָכְמָה “the application of knowledge”) and understanding (Binah/בינה insight gained from wisdom) to be gleaned from the study of Parashah Toledot “Generations”. We begin by citing an important utterance addressing Human Birthrights, to The Glory of  YHWH “HE Who BE Who HE BE” even H.I.M. Qedamawi Haile Sellassie in the Name of Yeshua: True Israel’s Power and King upon The Throne of David: “These lessons must be learned anew by each succeeding generation, and that generation is fortunate indeed which learns from other than its own bitter experience.”: Address to the United Nations October 6, 1963. From a Hebrew perspective and Spirit this is certainly true as Romans 15:4 also admonishes us of this point by proclaiming “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Thus we proceed to contemplate a very important lesson embodied in the types represented by Jacob and Esau. This is applicable to The Covenant of Qedamawi Haile Sellassie, in and through Yeshua (evidently ordained in The Complete Testament of The Holy Bible, for those who can see with the veil removed from their eyes) and choose to walk in Faith and receive the Blessings. Additionally, this reading in connection with the Haftarah Reading of Malachi 1-2 and the New Covenant reading of Romans 9 reveals a call to repentance for Israel and for the Preisthood who are in the “Esau Mentality” (YAH willing, we will examine this matter in detail in part 2 of the portion review).

-Jacob and Esau as Two Types of Believers: The Spiritual and The Carnal

In the reading of Toledot, the Esau mentality is clearly contrasted with that of Jacob. The Esau mind is revealed as giving no credit to The spiritual substance accessible by Faith in YHWH’s promise, but rather relying on the carnal, temporal, fleshy and worldly influences as a means of seeking sensual contentment, which apart from seeking to fulfill the Will of YHWH are but as fleeting momentary illusions. This is clarified in Romans 9:8 “That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of Ha-Elohim: but the children of THE PROMISE a.k.a. THE COVENANT are counted for the seed.”

In Genesis 25:21 we find a “cryptic” key that is very revealing when understood in the context of Hebraic Nuances “Wordplay” :And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.

-In Parashah 5 Hayei Sarah we learned during the reading of The Bride for Isaac that Rebecca represents the Church in the metaphysical or the Soul in the esoteric. Below is the teaching presented by our Honorable Rebbi Yad Veshem on the matter.

-Rebecca is specifically distinguished as The Daughter of Bethuel (בְּתוּאֵל) which carries the meaning of either “The Power ‘GOD’ Destroys” or “Dweller in The Power ‘GOD'”, MePadanAram (מִפַּדַּן אֲרָם) being “in the Elevated Field”.  From this context, it may be interpreted that Esau is a type that The Father of Rebecca (The Church or Soul will destroy) and Jacob is a type that will dwell in The Power of The Father. This is confirmed in both the Nebiym “Prophets” Reading Malachi 1:2-3 “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith YHWH: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness ” and the Brit Hadashah “New Covenant” Reading Romans “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.” (Keep in Mind from the Previous Study of Hayei Sarah that Abraham and Sarah “Father and Mother of The Faith” is personified in phi-cycle manifestation by Qedamawi Haile Sellassie and Qedamawit Wolette Giyorgis “Empress Menen”) The spiritual application of this refrain will become more evident as we move forward, in this study.

-In verse 22, we see Rebecca (again a type of church/soul) about to give birth and she inquires of YHWH about the Struggle occurring within her womb or “matrix”/Rekhem (רֶחֶם). A key to comprehending this is found in Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle “STRUGGLE” not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

-In verse 23, YHWH informs Rebecca she was going to birth 2 nations or 2 types of people (Esau:Carnal and Jacob:Spiritual). The Carnal would serve The Spiritual. A false doctrine has been circulated that Rebecca demonstrated inequity by counseling Jacob to receive the Covenant Blessing of Abraham through Isaac. However, this is absolutely illogical as YHWH had already declared His Will to her. We must be careful not to perpetuate these carnal perversions of The Word as we are admonished in Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith YHWH”

For The RasTafari Aprocrypha “unveiling” of Verse 23 we cite Isaiah 66:8 “ Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion (The House of David) travailed, she brought forth her children.”

-In verse 25, Esau’s hairy garment may be interpreted as symbolic of his carnal nature. This is deduced from Genesis 3:21’s accounting of Adam  and his wife’s (soul??) fall from their heavenly “spiritual nature” thus Ha-Elohim clothed them with coats of skin. It is interesting that in Genesis 25:30, after Esau sold his birthright for a mere carnal desire his name was changed to Edom (אֱדֹם) from the root Adam (אָדֹם). The Carnal and Spiritual Pattern is again revealed in reverence to Yeshua “YAH IS SAVING”=The Salvation of Adam “Man” in 1 Corinthinians 15:45 “And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.” Another false doctrine has be circulated that Jacob stole Esau’s birthright from this verse we can clearly delineate that Esau SOLD HIS BIRTHRIGHT. Jacob demonstrated Faith in YHWH’s Promise of Blessing by recognizing the value of the Birthright. Esau even went so far as, in verse 32, to deny Faith in YHWH by stating that he was “going to die”. Given the content of The Blessing, in particular, Genesis 28:3   “And El Shaddai bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;” this would be a complete blasphemy towards YHWH, considering that Esau had not taken his wives as of yet when he pronounced this curse upon himself.(Genesis 27:4/28:9 The disdain of Isaac and Rebecca for Esau’s Canaanite wives must be understood not in terms of tribal discrimination but of differences in moral standards that were wanting among the Hivite and Hitite culture)

-In verse 27, Esau is described as a Man of the” field” (Sadeh שָׂדֶה :Field; Land; Home of Wild Beasts) representing the current culture world of the world system. 1 John 2:15 clarifies this ” Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”  Whereas Jacob is described as a “plain man” (Tam Iysh תָּם יֹשֵׁב : complete, perfect, one who lacks nothing in physical strength, beauty, sound, wholesome, an ordinary, quiet sort of person, complete, morally innocent, having integrity, one who is morally and ethically pure/Man) dwelling in tents. The Tents represents a cognition of the temporality of our spiritual pilgrimage during the time we are gifted on this earth. We are able to see a reflection of this insight in Abraham in Genesis 23:4 “I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

-The Esau Spirit

One crucial lesson to be gained from this study is found in recognizing that Esau did not show any true repentance (change of heart and mind). His remorse was based on a selfish emotional sense of loss. This is shown in Genesis 27:34 “And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.” compare with Malachi 2:13 “And this have ye done again, covering the altar of YHWH with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.” and Hebrews 12:16-17 “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” Moreover, reminiscent of Cain who slew his brother Abel and had no remorse only a concern about being murdered himself. Esau from a contemptible and envious heart hated his brother Jacob and sought to slay him. Concerning this matter,  YHWH has stated “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.” (Genesis 4:7)………………..Shalom!
